SERVICES > Wellness & Vaccinations
Initial veterinary visits are extremely important to not only the pet, but the owner as well. Many clients that adopt new pets are new to the care of their animals. Our goal during this visit is to establish a relationship with you and your pet and educate you on the needs and well being of your animal. During your first puppy/kitten wellness visit, your veterinarian will perform a thorough wellness exam and begin discussion on behavior and house training options, provide dietary recommendations, flea and heartworm prevention, discuss vaccination schedules and routine yearly testing to ensure the health of your new friend.
ANNUAL WELLNESS VISIT
Comprehensive physical examinations are an important tool in providing a long, quality life for your pet. Pets age 5-7 times faster than humans, can't talk, and often hide early signs of disease. One year represents 5-10% of the pet's life span, whereas one year only represents a very small percentage of the average life of a human. Getting a comprehensive physical examination for your pet is like one every 5-7 years for humans.
Since pets can't talk to us, they often are unable to communicate problems before they become a major concern and threat to your pet's well being. Regular physical examinations increase the chances of being able to prevent or at least minimize many of the effects of aging.
The information obtained during a comprehensive physical examination of your pet becomes part of your petís medical history, and can be critical when an emergency or sudden illness arises. Any hint of abnormalities may bring recommendations for additional laboratory testing to confirm suspicions. Catching problems early solves problems more rapidly, saving your pet unnecessary discomfort and possibly the costs of more expensive treatment later on.
COMPREHENSIVE EXAMINATIONS
We strive to provide the highest quality health care for your pet and to educate our clients with regard to proper veterinary care. We believe that educating pet owners prepares both owner and pet for a "win-win" experience. By providing the highest level of compassion and education to our owners through our well-trained staff and doctors, and quality radiology, surgery, dental and laboratory services, we will continue to practice in ways that help us meet that goal. Comprehensive examinations are available for patients who are acting out of the normal parameters their owners are accustomed to. Whether it be an upset stomach or an abnormal growth, our doctors are available to examine and troubleshoot any problems, medical or behavioral, your pet may be experiencing.
SENIOR EXAMINATIONS/WELLNESS
Establishing close relationships with our clients is extremely important to us. Because of this, we have the pleasure of working with many of our patients from puppy and kitten hood, well into their senior years. Senior examinations and wellness protocol change after your pet reaches the age of seven.
Due to advances in veterinary medicine and better nutrition, pets are living longer. Since pets are living longer, more and more senior patients tend to suffer from age related diseases that humans do. Some of these diseases include (but are not limited to) diabetes, kidney failure, arthritis, cognitive dysfunction, vision failure, dental disease, and cancer. Bogue Animal Hospital realizes that each of our patients age differently and wellness plans have to be tailored to our individual patients.
When your pet reaches its golden years, our doctors will begin reviewing senior care options with you to ensure adequate dietary, dental, and physical wellness. Fortunately, if care starts early, there are many ways to diagnose, treat, and manage senior diseases before they become life threatening problems. If your pet is aged 7+ and you would like to schedule a senior screening, please call our office at (316) 722-1085. One of our customer service representatives would be happy to schedule some time for you with one of our doctors.
