How does one define “cute?”
For every person you ask, you can most likely count on as many definitions! At Bogue Animal Hospital, we were smitten back in November when we had the privilege of meeting for the first time “Maggie” and “Lilly,” the GoldenDoodle pups belonging to Ken & Jenny. At three months of age, they stole our hearts! Now at nine months of age, we still melt upon their arrival!
Why GoldenDoodles? They’re gentle, and they shed very little if at all, say their owners, who picked them from a September littler of nine. Dad was a miniature poodle, mom was a golden retriever. They should reach a weight of about twenty-five pounds as adult dogs. We thought the pups were darling at three months, but Jenny commented that she thinks they’re even “cuter” now that they’ve matured.
Why two? Well, when the husband and wife cannot agree on the “pick,” (and it happens much more often than you might think) each picks one and all of a sudden there are TWO!!! That’s how it happened! A poor decision, you ask? Not at all, according to Ken and Jenny. They’ve taken to their owner’s traianing pretty well. Lilly remains a “bit of a challenge,” while Maggie is oh-so mellow and easy. Why, at three months of age, the pups were already learning to ring the bell on the door to signal their need to go outside!
For every pet owner, there is a “favorite” breed. Isn’t it wonderful that there’s a wealth of sizes, shapes, and tempraments from which to choose? At Bogue Animal Hospital, the only caution we suggest as you look for your own personal “pet-of-your-life” is that you do a bit of homework, see or ask about the dam and the sire of your pup’s litter, and don’t pay an arm and a leg for a “backyard breeding accident” that may present you with any numbers of potential genetic problems – and an empty wallet to boot!
Thanks to Maggie & Lilly for being our ‘poster children!’
